I painted these paintings in Leipzig, Germany in February and March, where I had been given a three month residency at the famed Spinnerei.
In January, in the freezing streets, I had a phone and a whistle. They had a lot more. They still do.
There is little one can do under such circumstances, but I can paint it.
It's not just that we lived through this, it's that we forget our experiences, we say "it wasn't so bad." Even now, I am no longer so angry, in part because I painted it, and because time passes and every day Trump does some new awful thing, so why remember? But it was bad, and I don't want others to forget it.
"But it was bad,
and I don't want others
to forget it."
